Some more experiments with watercolour pens and Cosmic Shimmers. This time trying to get them to blend into each other.
Bookbinding {1}-2-3 Registration is Open!
Back in November I mentioned that I had agreed to teach a class for Shabby Cottage Studios and I am pleased to be able to announce that registration is now open!
Bookbinding 1 with Rhomany
I’m so excited to be teaching this class, which is the first of 3 workshops that will show you the fundamentals of bookbinding. It all starts with a scavenger hunt to find tools and materials from your other hobbies to make your books with. I have never believed that you should have to spend lots of money on specialist tools, so the only things you’ll need to buy for this class are the things you choose to buy or can’t re-purpose from around your home. You’ll be re-purposing your skills too. Want to knit or sew your book cover? Embroider the spine of your book? Do some funky things with beads and jewels? Then let’s play!
It’s being run through Creative Workshops (click the link and scroll down for the link to the workshop info) and it starts March 2nd. Price is $45*. In this workshop we’ll make two book structures, one glued and one sewn, with plenty of ideas and prompts for you to make more if you want to – perfect for all your art journaling needs.
*If you’ve taken 2 previous workshops with me, you are eligible for a loyalty discount of $10. Please contact me before signing up.

Still enjoying experimenting with my watercolour pens. It’s a fun process. Here I’ve mixed them with Cosmic Shimmer Paint to see how they blended together. I think it worked quite well, although you really can’t see the shimmer on camera and it was hard to control the bleed. I should have worked ont he lighter colour first, then the dark, because the second colour always bleedsinto the first it seems.
February is turning out to be a really busy month. I’m working on my online class and a commission this week. Then I have 2 more classes to work on, 3 proposals and samples for a local venue and I just received a huge ocmmission this morning that will probably take about 3-4 months to complete and may have a part 2 later on.
So if anyone needs me I’ll be sitting in the corner making lists.
And I’m Back!
Thanks so much everyone for all the wonderful cards and birthday wishes. I spent my 38th having a lovely day out with family and friends, and have spent the weekend doing a few bits and pieces I needed to do for myself.
This is one of my birthday presents – a wonderful odds-and-ends collage-card in purple and black by my wonderfully creative friend Jaihn over at Truly Spacious.
And Anam made me a gorgeous scrapbook page with pictures of me and my fairy Goth daughter, Fay, from their Christmas visit. You can see the original here. I have such wonderfully creative friends, they always amaze me.
This week I’m a busy, busy little bee, finishing off the first of a series of 3 new workshops that open on March 2nd (more on that later), working on some journal pages for an offline workshop I’ll be teaching soon and putting together some workshop proposals and samples for a potential new venue near where I live. I also have 2 commissions to do (one of which is something of a monstrosity because it’s actually a set of pieces) and plenty of other things I need to catch up on, so the first two weeks of February are going to be somewhat manic. I do love being busy though, so it’s a great start to the year!
A Zesty Birthday Card
I share a birthday with my aunt. Well, not exactly. Hers is a few days before mine, but for the life of me I can never remember the date. So I let her share my birthday instead. Everything’s so grey at the moment I thought I’d go for something simple, summery and zesty. It looks a lot better in real life, but I had trouble photographing it for some unknown reason.
Tomorrow I’m off out for the day because Mama & Papa Gnome are coming to visit. No idea what we’re going to do yet but apparently one thing on the agenda is looking for an orange loo seat. Oh, the glamour.
